In boardrooms dominated by men and industries shaped by rapid change, Dr. Padmasree Warrior carved out space not only for herself—but for the future of women in tech.
With a career spanning decades across some of the world’s most influential tech companies, she’s become a symbol of innovation, leadership, and unapologetic authenticity. Whether building breakthrough technologies or mentoring the next generation of women leaders, Padmasree Warrior has shown what it looks like to lead with both power and purpose.
From Engineering Dreams to Executive Reality
Born and raised in India, Warrior earned her undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi, before moving to the U.S. to complete her master’s degree at Cornell University.
Her career began at Motorola, where she spent over two decades, ultimately rising to Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Under her leadership, the company won the National Medal of Technology. She later served as CTO of Cisco Systems, where she helped drive innovation in cloud computing, collaboration, and networking during a pivotal era of global tech transformation.
In 2015, she became CEO of NIO USA, an electric vehicle company focused on the future of smart mobility—an area traditionally dominated by male leaders.
Leading with Vision—and Voice
Dr. Warrior is more than a technologist—she's a storyteller, strategist, and mentor. She’s been consistently named among Forbes' 100 Most Powerful Women and Fortune's Most Influential Women in Business. But her most lasting legacy may be the space she’s made for others to rise.
She frequently speaks about the importance of inclusive leadership, emotional intelligence in tech, and the responsibility of companies to reflect the world they serve.
“Leadership is not about commanding. It’s about inspiring. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being present.” – Dr. Padmasree Warrior
In 2019, she launched Fable, a platform focused on mental wellness through the power of reading and storytelling—showing that innovation doesn’t always have to look like code. Sometimes, it looks like connection.
A Role Model for the Future
Dr. Warrior continues to serve on the boards of leading organizations like Microsoft and Spotify, while mentoring women and underrepresented voices in tech. She’s built her career at the intersection of engineering and empathy, showing that being bold and being thoughtful aren’t mutually exclusive.
Her story is a reminder that leadership is not about fitting into the system—it’s about reimagining it.
In a world that still questions women’s place in tech, Padmasree Warrior never asked for permission—she simply led.
